Tyson Foods warms up to Islam

I thought this was rather interesting. As ACLU constantly mis-reminds us the interpretation of church/state, buisiness's are moving toward appeasement of religious holidays. I know, I know, government and buisiness are different. Yet, I couldn't help raising my eyebrows on this one.
SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. - Workers at the Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day but will instead be given the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr as a holiday.
According to a news release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, a new five-year contract at the plant included the change to accommodate the hundreds of Somali Muslims who work at the plant .
Eid al-Fitr — which falls on Oct. 1 this year — marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.
Union leaders say implementing the holiday was important for the nearly 700 Muslims, many of them Somalis, who work at the plant that employs a total of 1,200 people.
The Shelbyville Times-Gazette newspaper quotes union spokesman Randy Hadley as saying the negotiating team felt this change was "extremely crucial, since this holiday is as important to Muslims as Christmas is to Christians."
The newspaper also quotes the union as saying two prayer rooms have been created at the Shelbyville Tyson Foods' plant " to allow Muslim workers to pray twice a day and return to work without leaving the plant."

Y'know... there's nothing in the US Constitution that says anything about a state religion.
Translation: there's no good reason why all the holidays for religious purposes have to be Christian.
Why do we get Good Friday off, but not Rosh Hashanah? Christmas Day, but not Diwali? In some places in Canada, we even get this bonus day called Easter Monday; I don't complain, but maybe one of those gosh-darned evil Muslim terrorist-children might like to take Eid (as a good percentage of my students do).
The point is, if you have no state-imposed religion -- WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT YOUR FOUNDING FATHERS HAD IN MIND -- there's nothing saying a company can't give its employees any paid day off it wants. KFC could give everyone Colonel Sanders' birthday off, for example. (I know Chik-Fil-A closes every Sunday, which is their prerogative, I suppose, but it sucked pretty bad when I was in Pennsylvania and I wanted a chicken sandwich on the Day For God (if you're Christian).)
I fucking hate it when American Christians act all high-and-mighty. The whole "The U-S-of-A is a Christian Nation" thing is a crock of shit.

And, if I can just add one more thing... the author of Woman Honor Thyself selectively edits out comments on her website that she disagrees with. I know this from personal experience. I know in the past I've posted comments on here that are, ahem, a little contrary to your views; instead of them getting snuffed-out like they do on Woman Honor Thyself, you allow them to generate discussion, which is exactly how democracy works. Thanks for taking the high road, and not being the fascist autocrat that Woman Honor Thyself is.

One last thing...
Don't you find it a little odd that in a place like Shelbyville, Tennessee, there's a large meat-packing plant where over half of the employees are Muslim?
Kind of unexpected, wouldn't you say?

Two things JTL.
1) You really need to get rid of that chip off your shoulder.
2) Re-read the post.
I already commented this is a private company, rather than a governement one. Hence, they can do whatever they want. The article stated most employees are muslim. So it made sense of them to make this move.
I simply thought it was interesting so posted the article.
I don't find anything of my writing calling them evil. You seem to emphasize that point of view yourself.
Regarding comments on my blog: I believe everyone has their own opinion and the net is a means to post those views. However, if I feel the comment is lewd (meaning cursing without any point of the posted article) then I will remove it. I have to consider all viewers.
This is why I personally don't curse on other peoples blogs.
